After Elon Musk’s successful bid for Twitter was announced Monday the social media platform’s new leader took to Twitter to criticize the previous regime for censoring content related to the Hunter Biden laptop scandal. The sub-tweet fired off by Musk was in the comment section of a Politico article titled “Twitter’s top lawyer reassures staff, cries during meeting about Musk takeover.”
“Suspending the Twitter account of a major news organization for publishing a truthful story was obviously incredibly inappropriate,” Musk responded to the article. Musk, who has referred to himself as a “free speech absolutist”, has stricken fear into democrats who believe that the free flow of information will be damaging to the political discourse in the U.S.
Twitter top lawyer Vijaya Gadde addressed Twitter’s policy and legal teams to discuss how new leadership could reshape the company. In this meeting she cried and expressed grave concern over the future of the company, according to the Politico report.
“I think everyone at Twitter, regardless of how they feel about the news, is feeling reflective and emotional,” said one Twitter employee to Politico. “We’ve gone through a lot in the past two years and I think it’s generally instigated a lot of reflection. I think this was more of an acknowledgment of the uncertainty everyone is feeling right now.”
