Following Twitter’s acceptance of Elon Musk’s bid to purchase the platform and Musk’s promise to loosen censorship restrictions had many asking if former President and Twitter user Donald J. Trump would rejoin the platform. Trump provided a swift response to that question on Monday, stating that he did not plan to rejoin the platform.
“I am not going on Twitter, I am going to stay on TRUTH,” Trump told Fox News in an interview Monday. “I hope Elon buys Twitter because he’ll make improvements to it and he is a good man, but I am going to be staying on TRUTH.”
While the former President wont be rejoining Twitter conservative user rejoiced on Monday at the prospect of platform changes proposed by Musk. Changes include:
- Free speech comes first: Musk stated at the TED2022 Conference earlier this month that he believes Twitter should not be in the business of censoring free speech, but rather should be place that welcomes diverse opinion.
- Open-source algorithm: Musk’s plan would be to make the calculus that determines what appears on a user’s feed public information. This would alleviate the possibility of the platform “shadow-banning” some of its users. Musk Tweet in March, “I’m worried about de facto bias in ‘the Twitter algorithm’ having a major effect on public discourse. How do we know what’s really happening?”
- Say goodbye to spambots: plans to aggressively purse eliminating spambots from Twitter and focus on the authentication of users. “If our twitter bid succeeds, we will defeat the spam bots or die trying!”, Musk Tweeted earlier this month.
