Republicans Focus on Inflation in Effort to Appeal to Female Voters

By WMAL.com

Republican candidates are rolling out a new strategy to attract female voters in this Fall’s midterm elections, emphasizing the devastating impacts of inflation. With the rising cost of inflation coupled with women earning lower wages than men the GOP is betting big that focusing on the damage of inflation caused by the Biden Administration will help flip a demographic that has historically leaned left at the polls.

A poll released in early April by the nonprofit All in Together found that 58 percent of female voters believe that the current state of America’s economy is not working for them, 46 percent of women blame the Biden Administration for rising costs of living, and 41 percent hold the president accountable for the surge in gas prices.

“Cost of living increases are real and especially in the suburban seats that typically flip back and forth. That’s where you’re seeing the cost of living rise pretty quickly,” said Amanda Lovino, who led the polling efforts for Governor Glenn Youngkin’s successful gubernatorial campaign this past Fall.

The strategy employed by conservative candidates nationwide is largely a by-product of the success enjoyed by Governor Youngkin amongst female voters in his 2021 campaign. According to exit polls conducted by CBS in Virginia on election day 2021, the share of white women who supported a republican candidate grew from 49 percent in 2020 to 57 percent in 2021.
