The Williamsburg-James City Council voted 4-3 last week to nix the purchase of social studies books for local schools that included elements of Critical Race Theory. The vote followed a number of parents voicing outrage over the prospect of the material being taught in schools.
The textbook in question “Government in America: People, Politics and Policy” was deemed left leaning and a tool for indoctrination according to local parents interviewed by The Virginia-Pilot. The cover photo used for the textbooks features a protest in front of the U.S. Capitol with protestors holding signs reading, “Stop killing Black people” and “No justice no peace”.
Liberal board member Kyra Cook opposed the books dismal saying, “I think we deprived our children new textbooks and deprived our teachers of the opportunity to use new materials.”
