The number of minority gun owners has grown drastically over the past year, as gun purchases by people of color has now hit record highs. Following record high-crime rates in cities nation-wide, a rise in anti-Asian hate crimes and other factors, Asian, Black and Latino Americans are purchasing firearms and acknowledging their Second Amendment rights at records never seen before.
The initial surge in gun purchases was largely the result of uncertainty and fear surround the pandemic, according to the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF). While pandemic-era fears have waned gun purchases have not. A survey conducted by NSSF found that between 2019 and 2020 there was a 58% increase in gun purchases made by African Americans, 49% increase amongst Hispanic Americans, and a 43% increase amongst Asian Americans.
The increase in gun ownership is another terrifying statistic for Democrats, who have, for years, been on an anti-gun, anti-Second Amendment crusade. As minority communities recognize and begin utilizing their Second Amendment rights this tired Democratic talking point is expected to be less effective come election time.
