CNN+ Catastrophic Collapse

By WMAL.com

Warner Bros. Discovery announced on Thursday that they would be shutting down CNN+ just weeks after the streaming platform launched. After generating a measly 10,000 daily viewers the subscription service will cease to exist at the end of April.

CNN was recently acquired by Warner Bros. Discovery who have questioned the viability of CNN+ for weeks. CNN+ leader Andrew Morse was initially given a $1 billion budget to build the platform but overspent and underdelivered compared to initial projections. The project was largely led by former CNN President Jeff Zucker, but his resignation earlier this year following the revelation of a workplace relationship with an employee, was the beginning of the end for CNN+. New executives who were brought in following Zucker’s departure quickly distanced themselves from the subscription service and began discussing an exit strategy.

While some of the on-air talent programming employees are expected to stay on with CNN, layoffs are expected.  It is anticipated that between 350 and 700 employees of CNN+ will be let go at the end of the month. Former Fox News anchor Chris Wallace’s future with CNN is uncertain, but many expect  that he may make the move to a weekly interview show on CNN.
