Amtrak Lifts Mask Mandates for Employees and Passengers

By WMAL.com

On Monday, Amtrak brought an end to mask mandates following Trump nominated U.S. District Judge Kathryn Mizelle’s decision to strike down the mandates on federal transportation. Effective immediately masks will no longer be enforced and will now be optional for passengers and employees.

Amtrak joined several airlines in bringing an end to the mandates, including Delta, Southwest, American, United and Alaskan Airlines. “It has been a long 24 months with nearly constant change. I could not be prouder of our frontline employees who have handled every pivot focusing on safety and the care we’re known for,” said Alaskan Airlines Vice President of Safety and Security Max Tidwell.

An email sent to all Amtrak employees on Monday evening stated, “This action is consistent with the Biden Administration’s statement, just issued, which acknowledges today’s federal court decision in Florida to strike down the CDC mask mandate for public modes of transportation. Amtrak’s updated policy follows the Administration’s approach to this issue.”

Passengers are now free to make the decision for themselves whether to mask while riding Amtrak.
