Ilhan Omar Expresses Outrage Over Christians Singing on Plane

By WMAL.com

The Squad leader Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-MN) took to Twitter over the weekend to voice her anger over a viral video of Christians singing songs on an airplane over Easter weekend. Her tweets of opposition to the signing were met with harsh backlash and suggesting that she was demonstrating anti-Christian bigotry toward to airplane signers.

In a comment on the viral video, Omar, who is Muslim, wrote, “I think my family and I should have a prayer session next time I am on a plane … How do you think it will end?”

A number of users, including several prominent conservative candidates and elected officials, came to the defense of those singing the Christians songs to a plane filled with passengers who appeared to be enjoying the upbeat music. One candidate, Jose Castillo, who is currently running for the Republican nomination in Florida’s 9th District, responded “In America, Muslims can & do pray in public … If she wants a country where Christians aren’t allowed to do the same [Omar] should go back to her own country.”

The likely opponent of Omar in the upcoming midterm election also criticized the tweet, “Qatar – a country you’re very familiar with – plays Islamic prayers on the intercom before takeoff on their planes,” wrote Cicely Davis. She continued, “They have a designated prayer area & coordinates for Mecca are posted on the screens. It’s no problem. The issue is you hate Christians & Jews & lots of Muslims.”
