The House GOP is showing their confidence in reclaiming the majority in the House of Representatives in the upcoming midterm elections, as some of the party’s largest super PACs are now targeting districts that President Biden won by as many as 16 points, according to a report by Axios.
With Biden’s poll numbers in free fall, instability abroad, inflation and gas prices soaring and crisis in waiting at the southern border, Republicans are looking to do more than just swing the majority. They are looking to expand the republican map into areas that Biden won handily in 2020. PAC’s like the Congressional Leadership Fund (CLF), which supports conservative candidates, is going on the offensive by targeting districts Biden won by an average of 8 points.
CLF President Dan Conston discussed the eight Biden-district candidates his PAC has supported saying, “Each of these impressive candidates have the strength to expand the map into deep blue, traditionally Democrat-held territory.” He added, “Biden’s failures have turned stretch seats into real opportunities we can win with the right candidates.”
Notable CLF endorsed candidates included: Maya Flores (TX-34 (Biden +16 district)); Tanya Wheeless (AZ-04 (Biden 10+ district)); Marc Molinaro (NY-19 (Biden 10+ district)); Colin Schmitt (NY-18 (Biden +8 district)); April Beck (NV-03 (Biden +7)); and Cassy Garcia (TX-28 (Biden +7 district)).
Republicans are hopeful that they can come close to replicating the results they saw in 2010 when the party picked up more than 60 seats in the House.
