Pennsylvania Democrats Fleeing the Party

By WMAL.com

Republicans in Pennsylvania are feeling optimistic about the upcoming midterm elections this fall, as they are currently registering former democrats at a rate four times that of democrats registering former republicans, according to a recent report released by Reuters. This is a troubling sign for democrats who currently hold a thin majority in both the House and Senate. Pennsylvania was expected to be a hotly contested election for the Senate seat vacated by the retirement of republican Senator Pat Toomey.

Pennsylvania is not alone in this growing trend, as President Biden’s sliding polls number, rising gas prices and inflation, and instability abroad has pushed voters out of the democrat party. Two other key swing states, Florida and Nevada, have experienced a similar conversion of voters registrations over the past year and a half.

The data collected by Reuters suggests that the Pennsylvania GOP is on track to have its highest conversion rate of democrats to republicans in a cycle in more than a decade. The conversion is expected to topple the 2016 cycle when republicans took the White House, Senate and House of Representatives.

In the 2020 presidential election, President Biden won his home state with a razor thin margin of 1.2 percentage points. The GOP is hopeful that this spike in converted voters will push them over the top this Fall.
