Romney Announces Support for Ketanji Brown Jackson SCOTUS Nomination

By WMAL.com

Senator Mitt Romney (R) joined colleague Senator Lisa Murkowski on Monday in announcing their support for the confirmation of President Biden’s Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson.

  • State-of-play: after contentious nomination hearings last week Brown Jackson is expected to be confirmed this week. With Romney and Murkowski joining Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) President Biden’s nominee is expected to have the votes needed to be confirmed as the next Justice on the Supreme Court.
  • What Romney said: “After reviewing Judge Jackson’s record and testimony, I have concluded that she is a well-qualified jurist and a person of honor. While I do not expect to agree with every decision she may make on the Court, I believe that she more than meets the standard of excellence and integrity. I congratulate Judge Jackson on her expected confirmation and look forward to her continued service to our nation.” said Romney in a Tweet issued by his office.
  • Romney breaks with the party: this is certainly not the first time the Utah Senator has broken with the Republican party on a high-profile vote. Most notably, Romney voted with democrats, twice, to impeach former President Donald J. Trump.
