Montana Congressman Matt Rosendale (R) joined The Vince Coglianese Show on Tuesday to discuss what to expect following the end of Title 42 and the expected surge of illegal aliens crossing the southern border into the United States that may ensue.
- What is Title 42: a COVID-era policy enacted by the Trump Administration to keep illegal immigrants in Mexico or deport them to their native country before they can request asylum.
- State-of-play: the Center for Disease Control has until the end of the day today to decide if they will renew Title 42. It is widely anticipated the Trump-era policy will be rolled back. The Biden Administration has begun constructing holding facilities, booked contracts for transportation services and deployed immigration agents in preparation for the CDC’s decision.
- What Rosendale said: “we’re looking at numbers 200,000 to 300,000 more illegals amassing at the southern border in preparation of coming in. That’s unfortunate, but we have laws in place that prohibit that from taking place. I do not believe that keeping Title 42 in place, which again are under the emergency powers that I have tried to get rescinded through orders in the House of Representatives, so that we can stop having our liberties infringed upon. The [Biden] Administration needs to uphold the laws that keep illegal aliens from entering into our country. This administration needs to stop taking resources away from Customs and Border Patrol.
- 1.7 million: the number of illegal immigrants that have been blocked from entering the United States under Title 42, according to a CBS News report.
