Former President Donald J. Trump made headlines late Thursday with the announcement that he had filed a lawsuit against Hillary Clinton, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and several others alleging they conspired against him through a fraudulent claim that he colluded with Russia leading up to the 2016 elections.
- What Trump is claiming: “In the run-up to the 2016 Presidential Election, Hillary Clinton and her cohorts orchestrated an unthinkable plot – one that shocks the conscience and is an affront to this nation’s democracy,” the complaint says. “Acting in concert, the Defendants maliciously conspired to weave a false narrative that their Republican opponent, Donald J. Trump, was colluding with a hostile foreign sovereignty.”
- At least $24 million in damages is what former President Trump is claiming he suffered from the alleged Russian collusion case he has brought against Clinton and her cohorts.
- 28 individuals were named as defendants in the lawsuit, including former FBI Director James Comey, Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta and other high-profile democrats.
- Why now: the lawsuit follows the recent release of the Durham filings.
