This week, at the House GOP retreat in Florida, Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy is working with Republican colleagues to finalize a plan being referred to as their “Commitment to America” agenda. The plan will serve as a guideline of policy proposals that republicans would put forth should they win back the House in the Fall midterm elections.
- The goal is to release the plan this summer and unify the party around a number of policy proposals outlined within the agenda.
- What McCarthy is saying: “They’ve been meeting, we’ve been listening, and some things we’ve already rolled out like the Parents Bill of Rights, Border Security, but what we’ve done even further is not just the members on the task forces but each week we’ve been home we’ve been having a second conference call where we invite the task force members in where each task force has been presenting. This retreat is based on that and we’re going to narrow down and finalize and get our members together and united because you got to pass what you’re going to run on,” said McCarthy in an exclusive interview with Breitbart News.
- McCarthy is taking a different approach than Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell who rejected a plan released by Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee Rick Scott (FL) early last month. Scott’s plan was also established to provide guidelines for republican Senate candidates to communicate plans for a Republican majority to their voters. McConnell rejected the plan saying it did nothing but provide ammunition for democrat candidates.
