Biden SCOTUS Nominee Grilled on Day Two of Confirmation Hearings

By WMAL.com

Tuesday marked the second day of the nomination hearings for President Biden’s Supreme Court nominee Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson. The hearing lasted more than 13 hours and featured several contentious moments between Republican Senators and Jackson.

  • Status of nomination: Jackson is fully expected to be nominated as the next Justice on the Supreme Court. She currently holds the support of the entire democratic caucus, and three Senate republicans are believed to be in support of her nomination. Barring any major gaffes in the final days of her trial, she is expected to maintain the votes needed to be confirmed.
  • Sen. Graham (SC) on double-standard: “The reason I’m bringing all this up is it gives me a chance to remind this committee [that] in America, there are two standards going on here. If you’re an African American, conservative woman, you’re fair game to have your life turned upside down, to be filibustered no matter how qualified you are, and if you express your faith as a conservative, all of a sudden, you’re a f-ing nut”
  • Sens. Cruz (TX) and Hawley (MO) grilled Jackson on her position on the teachings of Critical Race Theory: “Critical race theory frames all of society as a fundamental and intractable battle between the races … It views every conflict as a racial conflict,” said Sen. Cruz. He followed by asking, “You think that’s an accurate way of viewing society?”
