McLean, VA (WMAL) If you commute on the George Washington Parkway, be prepared to face lane closures this week.
There will be single lane closures alternating in the north and southbound lanes along sections of the parkway as prep work is done for a major rehab project. Those closures will take place Monday through Friday on the Donaldson and Windy Run Bridges, as well as the stretch between Route 123 and Spout Run.
Starting Friday, single lanes will be closed between the Beltway and Turkey Run Park as well, with northbound closures between 7 am and 2:45 pm, and southbound closures between 9:30 am and 6 pm.
All work will be weather dependent, and those closures are subject to change.
In addition, the National Park Service has closed part of parking lot C-2 and part of parking lot B at Turkey Run Park as a part of the project to rehabilitate the north section of the George Washington Memorial Parkway. These parking areas will be closed for the duration of the project.
All of these closures are prep work for the parkway’s first-ever $161 million major rehabilitation project, which will improve the driving experience, safety and water drainage while retaining and reviving the historic beauty and significance of the parkway – including opening scenic views to Washington, D.C.
