After more than two weeks since Russia began its invasion of Ukraine the United Nations has reported 1,900 civilian deaths, including 52 children, according to a UN official.
- Death toll: “likely much higher [than 1,900],” said UN political affairs chief Rosemay DiCarlo. She added: “This demands a thorough investigation and accountability.”
- Russia attacking health care facilities: have increased since President Vladimir Putin has intensified Russia’s war efforts in Ukraine. 43 attacks on Ukraine health care facilities have been perpetrated, according to World Health Organization chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
- U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken: “in the process of documenting and evaluating potential war crimes being committed” in Ukraine” and would “make sure that our findings help international efforts to investigate war crimes and hold those responsible accountable.”
- 3.1 million: the number of refugees who have fled Ukraine since the invasion began on February 24th. This marks the largest refugee crisis in Europe since World War II.
