After Smollet was sentenced to 150 days in jail last week an appeals court ordered yesterday that the disgraced actor be released while he appeals the conviction. Smollet’s attorney pleaded with the appeals court that the actor’s jail time would end prior to the appeals process being completed.
- Smollet was set to serve 150 days: in Cook County jail plus 30 month probation for staging a fake hate crime against himself.
- Appeals court: voted 2-1 in favor of allowing Smollet to be released after posting a personal recognizance bond of $150,000. Under the agreement, Smollet is not required to put any money down but must agree to come to court as required.
- Restitution: the actor will still be ordered to pay $120,106 in restitution and a $25,000 fine.
