The decision by VA Senate Democrats to block Governor Youngkin’s Parole Board nominees has grounded Virginia Parole Board’s operations. The Parole Board is currently operating with only its Chairman Chadwick Dotson and has nearly 400 pending parole cases to review.
- Senate democrats rejected: all four of Governor Youngkin’s Parole Board nominees in a move to spite Republican legislators for block former Governor Northam nominees in the past.
- What they’re saying: “It’s an unworkable position, and it’s absolutely unconscionable what they have done for purely political purposes,” said Chariman Dotson in an interview with the Richmond Times-Dispatch.
- 378: the number of open parole cases in the state of Virginia. 50-75 of which involve inmates have been recommended to be granted parole by parole examiners.
- What’s next: Governor Youngkin will not be allowed to re-appoint the rejected nominees and it is expected that he will begin searching for a new slate of nominees.
