Report: Cuomo Failed to Account for Thousands of Nursing Home Deaths

The New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli released an audit Tuesday that found that the Cuomo Administration failed to report the death of 4,100 nursing home residents.

  • Up to 50 percent: of the nursing home death toll was unreported from April 2020 to February 2021, according to the audit.
  • The Cuomo narrative: that New York was leading the way on safety precautions related to COVID was pushed over the actual death tole incurred. The audit determined that the New York Health Department failed to meet ethical and moral obligation to act transparently when reporting nursing home deaths.
  • What they are saying: ”Our audit findings are extremely troubling,” DiNapoli said in a statement. ”The public was misled by those at the highest level of state government through distortion and suppression of the facts when New Yorkers deserved the truth.” She continued, ‘Families have a right to know if their loved one’s COVID-19 death was counted, but many still don’t have answers from the state Department of Health.”
