The former EPA Administrator in the Trump Administration Andrew Wheeler will serve as a senior advisor to Governor Glenn Youngkin. The announcement comes after the former Trump official nomination for Secretary of Natural and Historic Resources was blocked by Senate Democrats in Richmond.
- Wheeler’s role: as an advisor will be to work with acting-Secretary Travis Voyles to oversee primarily environmental issues for the state.
- Partisan politics: is what caused Senate Democrats to reject Wheeler’s nomination for Secretary. Wheeler faced harsh criticism from democrats for his time in the Trump Administration. The February nomination vote was split down party lines. In response to blocking Wheeler’s nomination, the GOP-led House removed a nominee of former Democratic Gov. Ralph Northam from the powerful State Corporation Commission by letting her appointment expire.
