Democrat strategists are painting a grim picture around the potential effects of the continued departure of Hispanic voters from the party. Former President Donald J. Trump widened the reach of the Republican party and courted Hispanic voters in numbers never seen by a conservative candidate in the 2020 presidential election. Republicans are seeking to build off that momentum heading into the Fall midterm elections.
- 9 points: the number of Hispanic voters that said they would back Republican candidate for Congress over a Democrat, according to a recent Wall Street Journal Poll. In the same poll conducted last November the parties were tied.
- Republicans: are particularly focused on improving messaging and outreach to voters from Puerto Rico, Cuba, Central America and Mexico.
- Social conservatism: is popular amongst the Hispanic population. Republicans are believed to be ramping up efforts to showcase their support for these policies in an attempt to widen their base of voters.
