The Biden Administration announced its opposition to sending Polish war jet to aid Ukraine’s war-time efforts.
- “High Risk”: is what the Pentagon stated as their reasoning for not sending the jets into Ukraine. Adding, Polish jets are “not likely to change the effectiveness” of Ukraine’s air force relative to Russia’s capabilities.
- Bipartisan support: in Congress currently exists for the U.S. military to aid Ukraine’s efforts against the Russian invasion. Following a call with Ukrainian President Zelesnky, Congress demanded that the U.S. facilitate the transfer of MiG-29 planes to bolster Ukraine’s air defense against Russia.
- Pentagon press secretary John Kirby: “We assess that adding aircraft to the Ukrainian inventory is not likely to significantly change the effectiveness of the Ukrainian air force relative to Russian capabilities. Therefore, we believe that the gain from transferring those MiG-29s is low,”
