A group of liberal advocacy groups in Virginia request that Governor Glenn Youngkin not replace Board of Education members who were nominated by former Governor Ralph Northam.
- Three Northam nominees: Jamelle S. Wilson, Anthony Swann and Stewart D. Roberson were all nominated before the last year’s gubernatorial election.
- A stand-off: House Republicans refused to confirm the three nominees in response to Democrats refusal to confirm Youngkin’s nominee for State Secretary of Natural and Historic Resources Andrew Wheeler, who served as the top EPA official under the Trump Administration.
- Virginia Grassroots Coalition: is the name of the group that is requesting Youngkin re-nominate the Northam selections for Board of Education. On the Coalitions website they describe themselves as supporting “progressive candidates and policies”.
