Congress reached an agreement on Tuesday for a government-wide spending bill totaling $1.5 trillion. Included in the deal is $13.6 billion for aid to Ukraine and Eastern European allies following the Russian invasion.
- Bipartisan support: the aid package for Ukraine and allies was supported by both Republicans and Democrats.
- Up $4 billion: the nearly $14 billion in aid agreed to by congressional leaders marks a $4 billion increase from what the Biden Administration requested last week.
- Refugee crisis: is driving force behind the aid package. Currently, more than 1.5 million Ukrainian people have been displaced from their homes fleeing the war-torn country. This marks the largest refugee crisis since World War II, according to the UN.
