Russian born NHL super star Alex Ovechkin has been a longtime supporter of President Valdimir Putin, but caught the attention of many last week calling for peace between his home country and Ukraine.
- What he said: “Please, no more war” … he continued: “[The war is] not something I can control. It’s not in my hands.”
- Putin/ Ovechkin friendship: the hockey star has campaigned for Putin in the past.
- NHL Stance: the hockey league has suspended all relationship with business partners in Russia. While the NHL has the largest share of any American sports league with 5% many of it’s Russian born start have faced threats and lost endorsement deals as a result of the conflict.
