MCCONNELL KILLS PLAN FOR TERM LIMITS

By WMAL.com

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has publicly rebuked the 11-Point plan, which included a call for term limits, released by Senator Rick Scott (R-FL). Sen. Scott currently serves as the Chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee and released the plan as a platform for candidates to run on in 2022.

  • Term limits: the plan outlined included the implementation of term limits on Members of Congress.
  • What McConnell is saying: “That will not be part of the Republican Senate Majority agenda. We will focus instead on what the American people are concerned about: inflation, energy, defense, the border and crime.”
  • What’s driving Republican pushback on the plan: included in the plan was a section calling for an tax increase on the poorest Americans – “All Americans should pay some income tax to have skin in the game, even if a small amount. Currently over half of Americans pay no income tax.”
  • McConnell is furious: convening with Members of Republican Leadership the Minority Leader fumed over the release of Scott’s plan, claiming that the left was already using the plan to create attack ads for the upcoming midterm elections.

It is clear Minority Leader McConnell is focused on keeping the GOP narrative centered on the failure of the Biden Administration to deliver results and provide strong leadership for the country.
