SENATOR MANCHIN SIDES WITH GOP TO DEFEAT ABORTION BILL

By WMAL.com

On Monday, Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) broke with the democratic party to oppose a bill that would legalize abortion up to birth nationwide. Manchin moved to oppose the legislation via cloture vote, which would have forced a vote on the Women’s Health Protection Act.

  • Women’s Health Protection Act: provides federal push back on pro-life state laws.
  • 48-46: the final vote tally for the cloture vote that took place Monday that would have end debate and forced a vote on the abortion bill.
  • Manchin Spokesperson: “Senator Manchin’s position has not changed” when asked about breaking from the democratic caucus to vote “no”.

This legislation comes as the Supreme Court is currently considering a case that would limit Roe vs. Wade.
