Mayor Bowser issued an alert on Tuesday regarding the trucker convoy’s protest that is planned for the coming week. While the size of the convoy is unclear at this time, the mayor’s office is alerting the public of their arrival. It is believed that truckers are scheduled to begin arriving for the protest as earlier as today (Wednesday, 2/23). The trucker convoy is set to serve as a protest against vaccine mandates and coincide with the delivery of President Biden’s first State of the Union address.
ALERT from the Mayor’s office: “Mayor Bowser is being briefed by public safety officials as we continue to monitor the situation closely,” the alert said. “There are layered mitigation strategies in place and our agencies remain in regular contact with local, regional and federal partners.
According to a station report an estimated 500 members of the DC police force have been organized into “civil disturbance units” in preparation for the protest.
