WASHINGTON– The Virginia Department of Health says five Afghans who recently arrived in Virginia from Afghanistan have now been confirmed to have the measles. Cases have been detected in the Northern and Central regions of the Commonwealth.
“The people confirmed to have measles recently traveled from Afghanistan as part of the United States government’s emergency evacuation efforts,” The statement says.
Locally, county health departments are currently looking for people who may have been exposed at Dulles International Airport and other locations.

VDH says most Americans get the measles vaccine as kids, and that has lifetime immunity.
Flights from Afghanistan were recently “paused” by the Biden administration due to a “Measles outbreak”.
