MARYLAND (WMAL) – A Montgomery County mother is charged with trying to kill her 3-year-old daughter.
A man called Montgomery County Police Saturday around 10:50 a.m. to say he got to a relative’s home and found blood on the floor.
When cops got to the home on Hathaway Drive in the Wheaton-Glenmont area they found blood and a pair scissors on the floor. 28-year-old Anne Akers was on her bedroom floor with a cut on her neck. She was holding a blanket. When police removed it, they found her three-year-old daughter who had been stabbed in the neck and was dying. Police tried to save the girl before she was airlifted to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Doctors told police if the officers hadn’t done all they could to keep her alive, they believe the toddler would have died.
Akers was arrested and charged with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault and first-degree child abuse.
