WASHINGTON – With COVID-19 cases on the rise, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser has announced that the city government will be providing a one-time stimulus payment of $1,200 to qualifying residents.
According to a press release from the mayor’s office, residents who had applied and were deemed eligible for Pandemic Unemployment Assistance support on or before November 30, are eligible for the payment.
Approximately 20,000 DC residents fall under this category. The District of Columbia Department of Employment Services is expected to issue these payments in the near future.
“The District is committed to using every resource at our disposal to provide support to residents who have been hardest hit by the pandemic,” said Mayor Bowser. “With federal assistance getting ready to end later this month, and as the public health and economic crises continue, this stimulus payment is one way we can get immediate and much-needed relief to more than 20,000 Washingtonians. But we also know that short-term relief is not enough. We urge our federal partners to pass legislation that recognizes the needs of millions of Americans who have made tremendous sacrifices and who are struggling to get by through no fault of their own.”
Bowser also said the district will use CARES Act relief aid to fund the one-time stimulus payments.
According to the release, those eligible for the payment will be notified by the department through their DC Networks portal and email address. Eligible residents will not have to fill out other applications and payment will be
automatically disbursed.
