WASHINGTON–DC Mayor Muriel Bowser announces changes to rules for those coming to and from the district.
Gone is the list of restricted states.
It’s now replaced with the requirement that visitors to DC must get tested for the Coronavirus 72 hrs before visiting.
Bowser says close contacts of people who test positive shouldn’t come to DC. People who come to DC for longer than 3 days need to then re-test for the virus. Also, she says employers, hospitals, universities and others will have the option of asking visitors about recent travel and may require them to provide a negative COVID test.
Those coming to Washington, D.C. for essential work can carry out their duties prior to receiving the results of their second test as long as they don’t have symptoms or in close contact with someone who tested positive.
People visiting for less than 24 hours or coming to the area for a funeral/family emergency are exempt from getting a test prior to coming.
Mayor Bowser says in regards to enforcement, “Nobody is going to be asking you at the airport or on bridges or roads or the train station to show your papers”.
The new rules don’t apply to Maryland and Virginia residents, but if you live in DC and choose to travel, Mayor Bowser says you should self-quarantine upon your return for 14 days or get tested 3-5 days after you come home.
