WASHINGTON – George Washington University has announced that classes will remain mostly online for the upcoming spring semester.
According to a statement from the school, the decision was based on feedback from students and the community, concerns over the spread of COVID-19 and the school’s commitment to a positive student residential experience.
Based on our foremost priority of the health and safety of our community, we have made the decision to continue virtual instruction in the spring.

At the moment, most undergraduate courses and most graduate programs at the university are online. The school said there are limited exceptions for courses that require in-person instruction or research.
The university will continue to provide a 10 percent tuition reduction to Foggy Bottom and Mount Vernon undergraduate students who do not live on campus. The release also mentions that graduate tuition will remain frozen for the time being.
Based on the current gathering restrictions in D.C., the university came to the conclusion that it is unlikely they will be able to hold an in-person graduation ceremony in May 2021.
The school said it will provide more information about plans for virtual commencement events in the future.
