Amazon Backtracks, Agrees to Carry Alex Berenson’s Book Questioning Predominant Coronavirus Narrative (National Review)

Amazon backtracked after initially refusing to distribute former New York Times reporter Alex Berenson’s book on the coronavirus pandemic.

Berenson, who covered the pharmaceutical industry for the Times from 1999 to 2010, has been an outspoken critic of models used by epidemiologists to predict the course of coronavirus outbreaks in the U.S. He has also criticized the resulting lockdowns that were imposed across much of the country to prevent the pathogen’s spread. Former Defense Secretary Jim Mattis slams Trump’s leadership and views him as a constitutional threat (Washington Examiner)

President Trump’s former Defense Secretary Jim Mattis is taking a huge swipe at his former boss after a week of heavy unrest following the police killing of black Minneapolis man George Floyd.

“I have watched this week’s unfolding events, angry and appalled,” Mattis said in a statement reported by the Atlantic. “The words “Equal Justice Under Law” are carved in the pediment of the United States Supreme Court. This is precisely what protesters are rightly demanding. It is a wholesome and unifying demand — one that all of us should be able to get behind. We must not be distracted by a small number of lawbreakers. The protests are defined by tens of thousands of people of conscience who are insisting that we live up to our values — our values as people and our values as a nation.” [Read More]

PILF Praises 5th Circuit Ruling Protecting Texas’ Mail Voting Laws (Public Interest Legal Foundation)

Public Interest Legal Foundation (PILF) released the following statement in celebration of the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals’ decision regarding Texas’ absentee ballot laws.

“This is a critical win for Texas and a lesson to other states: defending your mail voting systems in the face of lawless demands is worthwhile and just,” PILF President and General Counsel J. Christian Adams said. “Don’t surrender like Virginia or New Mexico did. Mail voting is the most susceptible to fraud, and your laws are designed to prevent disenfranchisement. Fear isn’t a disability. The efforts to suggest otherwise in Texas demonstrate just how far the Left is willing to go to rewrite election laws in the face of the pandemic.” [Read More]

Drew Brees: ‘Completely missed the mark’ in comments on flag (ESPN)

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees issued an apology Thursday for his comments on “disrespecting the flag,” saying he “completely missed the mark” on current issues in the United States and that it “breaks my heart to know the pain I have caused.”

During an interview with Yahoo Finance on Wednesday, Brees reiterated his stance that he will “never agree with anybody disrespecting the flag of the United States of America.” He later told ESPN that he stands with his teammates fighting for racial equality and justice but also with the military, past and present. Barr denies protesters were cleared to make way for Trump church visit (The Hill)

Attorney General William Barr on Thursday said there was “no correlation” between law enforcement aggressively dispersing protesters from Lafayette Square near the White House and President Trump’s walk to nearby St. John’s Church shortly thereafter, a visit he defended as “entirely appropriate.”

Barr, who ordered law enforcement to expand their perimeter another block away from the White House on Monday evening, denied that the path was cleared of activists demonstrating against police brutality to make way for Trump’s trip to the church for a photo-op with aides. [Read More]
