5am – A/B/C ‘It feels like a big tailgate party’: Trump supporters line up days in advance of Dallas rally. (Dallas News) – By the time President Donald Trump speaks in Dallas on Thursday night, dozens of supporters will have waited in line to see him for more than 50 hours. They say it’s all worth it to see the president speak at a Keep America Great Again campaign rally — Trump’s first rally in Dallas as president. Trump is scheduled to speak at 7 p.m. Thursday at American Airlines Center. “We love America. We love our president, and we want to show our support,” said Cindy McCann, 40, of Bedford. McCann and her daughter, Jessica, 11, arrived outside the venue around 8 p.m. Tuesday, and they don’t plan to leave until they’ve seen the president speak. “We’re not going anywhere,” McCann said.

5am – D         US says Turkey agrees to a ceasefire in Syria. (CNN) –  Trump touts “unconventional” Turkey deal: “Sometimes you have to let them fight.” President Trump thanked Vice President Mike Pence and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo for traveling to meet with President Erdogan in Turkey, casting the ceasefire as an example of his great dealmaking during a rally in Dallas tonight.  Trump said that what he did in the region was “unconventional.” “Sometimes you have to let them fight a little while… right? Sometimes you have to let them fight. It’s like two kids in a lot, you got to let them fought and then you pull them apart,” Trump said of the conflict.  Some background: As CNN reported earlier tonight, the deal appears to secure Turkey most of its military objectives, forcing America’s one-time allies in the fight against ISIS— Kurdish forces—to cede a vast swath of territory, with one senior US official very familiar with operations in Syria telling CNN that the deal meant the US was “validating what Turkey did and allowing them to annex a portion of Syria and displace the Kurdish population.”

5am – E         El Chapo: Mexican police capture then release drug boss’s son after battle with cartel. (The Guardian) – Security minister says decision not to detain Ovidio Guzmán López was made to protect citizens, after heavy gunfire. Intense fighting has erupted in the Mexican city of Culiacán, where masked gunmen threw up burning barricades and traded gunfire with security forces after authorities arrested one of the sons of the jailed former leader of the Sinaloa drug cartel Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán. Mexico’s security minister, Alfonso Durazo, said a patrol by National Guard militarised police first came under attack from within a house in the city, 600 km (370 miles) northwest of Mexico City. After entering the house, they arrested Ovidio Guzmán López, who is accused of drug trafficking in the United States. However, the patrol was quickly overpowered by cartel gunmen, and the decision was taken to withdraw to protect the lives of the National Guard and restore calm in the city, where gangsters had set up roadblocks and were unleashing heavy automatic gunfire, Durazo said. Images shared on social media showed trucks with mounted heavy machine guns patrolling the city streets. Another clip showed a gunman with an assault rifle shooting at an unknown target against a soundtrack of continuous gunfire.

6am – A/B/C             DORAL / MULVANEY:

  • Trump’s Doral resort to host next G-7 summit, as White House defends choice. After months of speculation, acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney announced on Thursday that next year’s G-7 meeting will be held at President Trump’s resort in Doral, Florida between June 10 and 12. The decision to hold the G-7 meeting at the Trump National Doral Golf Club had been bandied about for months — since Trump made a pitch to have next year’s summit at the resort during August’s G-7 conference in France – and has created controversy amid concerns over the ethics of the president personally profiting off an official government event.
  • Acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney told reporters Thursday that President Trump did block military aid to Ukraine, in part, to force the government in Kiev to secure a politically motivated investigation of Democrats. Mulvaney walked back the remarks in a statement however, accusing the media of “misconstruing” his earlier remarks “to advance a biased and political witch hunt against President Trump.”

6am – D         84 yo MAN HAS GUNS CONFISCATED & LOSES JOB OVER SNIPPET OF CONVO OVERHEARD BY A WAITRESS: Stephen Nichols, 84, said he was fired from his job as a Tisbury crossing guard for an alleged “threat.” He says his comments were misinterpreted. – Rich Saltzberg. A Tisbury School crossing guard has been relieved of duty and had his personal firearms confiscated for alleged threats to the Tisbury School overheard by a waitress at Linda Jean’s restaurant in Oak Bluffs.  Stephen Nichols, 84, of Tisbury, who said his career with the Tisbury Police spanned six decades and who served in the United States Army during the Korean War, told The Times he made no threats to the school, but had criticized its school resource officer in a conversation with a friend. He said the conversation was taken out of context.  Dan Larkosh, of the Edgartown firm Larkosh and Jackson, represents Nichols, and said he intends to file an appeal of the decision by Tisbury Police Chief Mark Saloio to seize guns owned by Nichols, as well as his license to carry. Saloio declined to comment when approached at the Tisbury Police Station. He later told The Times, “There’s nothing that I can legally discuss about the matter. Period.” The police department has also refused to release the police report from the investigation citing the “personnel” exemption of the public records law. No criminal charges were filed against Nichols.

6am – E         Dennis Rodman on NBA-China fallout: ‘Politics with sports, it doesn’t mix’ (Fox News) – Retired basketball star Dennis Rodman discussed the NBA’s stance toward China in the wake of controversy over the league’s response to pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong. Rodman told “Tucker Carlson Tonight” Thursday that politics and sports should be kept separate. “I just look at it — I think the NBA is a great sport around the world,” he said. “NBA players have an obligation to do one thing — it’s to play sports. I think when you put politics with sports, it doesn’t mix.”

6am – F         Alec Baldwin will be in Chesterfield, Fredericksburg and Fairfax next week to canvass for Democratic candidates. (Richmond.com) – Alec Baldwin, the actor known for roles in TV’s “30 Rock” and movies such as “The Hunt for Red October” and “The Departed,” will be in Virginia on Oct. 22 to canvass for Democratic Virginia candidates. Baldwin is on the board of People For the American Way and will “visit three campaign locations and will take part in activities including door-knocking for candidates and greeting volunteers,” according to a news release. He will be supporting candidates endorsed by People For the American Way’s Next Up Victory Fund, a fund from the progressive advocacy group set up to support progressive candidates in local and state elections. “His visit comes as Virginia prepares for pivotal state legislative elections that could flip the General Assembly to Democratic control, solidifying a major political shift in this once deep-red state. The state races are also seen as a warm-up for the 2020 elections and a gauge of voters’ views of the Trump administration,” according to a news release from People For the American Way. Baldwin will be in Chesterfield County to support Amanda Pohl, candidate for Virginia Senate District 11; Fredericksburg for Joshua Cole, candidate for Virginia House District 28, and Qasim Rashid, candidate for Virginia Senate District 28; and Fairfax County for Dan Helmer, candidate for Virginia House District 40. The Next Up Victory Fund has endorsed 40 candidates in Virginia ahead of this year’s legislative races.

8am – D/E     INTERVIEW – GREGG JARRETT – author of Witch Hunt: The Story of the Greatest Mass Delusion in American Political History”

  • ABOUT BOOK: How did a small group of powerful intelligence officials convince tens of millions of Americans that the president is a traitor, without a shred of evidence? In Witch Hunt¸ Gregg Jarrett uncovers the bureaucratic malfeasance and malicious politicization of our country’s justice system. The law was weaponized for partisan purposes. Even though it was Hillary Clinton’s campaign that collected and disseminated a trove of lies about Trump from a former British spy and Russian operatives, Democrats and the media spun this into a claim that Trump was working for the Russians. Senior officials at the FBI, blinded by their political bias and hatred of Trump, went after the wrong person. At the DOJ, the deputy attorney general discussed secretly recording the president and recruiting members of the cabinet to depose Trump. Those behind the Witch Hunt have either been fired or resigned.  Many of them are now under investigation for abuse of power. But what about the pundits who concocted wild narratives in real time on television, or the newspapers which covered the fact that rumors were being investigated without investigating the facts themselves? Factual, highly persuasive, and damning, this must-read expose makes clear that not only was there no “collusion,” but there was not even a basis for Mueller’s investigation of the charge that has attacked Trump and his administration for more than two years. It’s always been a Witch Hunt.
