WASHINGTON (WMAL) – A man who lives in Montgomery County is charged with two counts of sex abuse of a minor for allegedly molesting two children in his family on multiple occasions.

According to charging documents Nestor Lopez-Guzman, 21, tried to inappropriately touch a 12-year-old girl many times over a six month period starting in Nov. 2018. She told Child Welfare Services he attempted to touch her inappropriately many times, but in most cases she moved, pushed him or kicked him away before he could. She said one time her brother had to push him away.

Montgomery County Police were notified May 21, 2019 after the girl’s friend told a school counselor about the abuse. When the counselor talked to the alleged victim, she confirmed the story.

When CWS interviewed the girl’s brother, an elementary school student, he said Guzman touched him inappropriately on multiple occasions a year ago according to charging documents.

A warrant was issued for Lopez-Guzman’s arrest on July 25, 2019. He told Montgomery County Police the touching was “a joke common in El Salvador” the charging documents state. He said he never “played these jokes” on the girl because “the cultural joke is for males to make fun of males.”

Lopez-Guzman is scheduled to be in Montgomery County District Court for a preliminary hearing Sept. 13.
