LOS ANGELES (AP/WMAL) – It’s like it’s 1985 again on the Billboard 200 chart, as Madonna beats Bruce Springsteen for the number-one slot.
Her latest video for the song “God Control” is a graphic re-enactment of mass shootings in America.
“This is your wake up call. Gun violence disproportionately affects children, teenagers and the marginalized in our communities. Honor the victims and demand GUN CONTROL. NOW. Volunteer, stand up, donate, reach out. Wake up and insist on common-sense gun safety legislation. Innocent lives depend on it,” Madonna said.
Madonna’s album “Madame X” moved 95,000 units in the past week, while Springsteen’s “Western Stars” moved 66,000 units. On Jan. 26, 1985, Springsteen’s “Born in the U.S.A.” was number one, with Madonna’s “Like a Virgin” at number two. The following week they switched places on the chart.
