WASHINGTON (WMAL) – With the Fourth of the July and the various festivities planned for the District of Columbia just around the corner, Metro has announced its planned hours of service for the holiday.
According to a release put out by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, Metro rail will open at 7 a.m. and close at 11:30 p.m. At the start of the day, trains will be available every 12 minutes, but after 2 p.m., Metro said service will be at near rush-hour service levels.
They also anticipates that there will be large crowds throughout the day and so bicycles and large coolers won’t be permitted on Metro rail after 2:00 p.m.
Off-peak fares will be in effect all day and parking will also be free at all Metro-operated facilities.
Metrobus service will be running on a Saturday schedule and detours should be expected around the National Mall.
For those planning on traveling to the National Mall, Metro said the closest station to the area is Smithsonian, however travelers may want to consider alternatives as there are stations near the Mall on every Metro line.
