WASHINGTON (WMAL) – A 73-year-old woman will spend 15 years behind bars after being sentenced Friday for murdering a child she was babysitting.

Oluremi Adeleye was taking care of 8-month-old Enita Salubi and two siblings on Oct. 24, 2016 when the baby started crying, waking Adeleye from a nap. She poured nearly 8 ounces of milk down the baby’s throat in less than 30 seconds, drowning the child.

Adeleye then called the baby’s father, Influence Salubi, who came home to find his healthy child lifeless. She was rushed to the hospital and pronounced dead.

“No one expects to leave their healthy baby home and return from work to find that child dead,” said Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Aisha Braveboy in a press release.

The parents had installed a nanny cam in their home which caught Adeleye in the act.

She was convicted by a judge – after declining a jury trial – in February of 2019 of second-degree murder, first-degree and second-degree child abuse.

“This is a heartbreaking case. This family is still in mourning,” said Braveboy.

Braveboy told WMAL she thinks justice was served.

“There’s nothing that replaces that baby, and there’s nothing to the family that would be more just than having their baby here, but all we can do is hold individuals accountable for their actions and try to get some semblance of justice for the family,” Braveboy told WMAL.

She added the parents helped get justice for their baby by setting up the nanny cam.
