Jeh Johnson, homeland security secretary during former President Barack Obama’s second term, declared Friday the southern border is in a “crisis” state, a claim the Trump administration first made late last year.
“We are truly in a crisis,” Johnson told MSNBC “Morning Joe” host Mika Brzezinski.
“On Tuesday there were 4,000 apprehensions. I know that 1,000 [apprehensions] overwhelms the system and I cannot begin to imagine what 4,000 a day looks like,” he said. [Read More]
The Pay Gap is Actually Really Small and Controllable (IWF)
Today is reportedly Equal Pay Day.
Before we get hyped up by news reports about how much less women earn than men, let’s understand that a few basic things about the pay gap.
- The pay gap is not a measure of “equal pay for equal work” or a sign of widespread discrimination against women.
- Wage discrimination is already illegal in the U.S.
- The pay gap is largely driven by the work choices that women and men make.

In her first interview about the alleged incident, one of the two women accusing Justin Fairfax of sexual assault told “CBS This Morning” co-host Gayle King that she believes the now-Virginia lieutenant governor preyed on her because he knew she had been assaulted before.
“He knew that the year prior that I had been raped by someone and that nothing was done about it. And he was a very good friend to me,” Meredith Watson told King. “Which is why I never would’ve expected anything like this from him.”
Watson claims Fairfax assaulted and raped her in 2000, when they were both students at Duke University. She said the two were friends and that she had confided in him about being allegedly assaulted by a Duke basketball player the year before. [Read More]
