WASHINGTON (WMAL)- A daycare worker tasked with taking care of people’s children violated them instead according to Fairfax County Police.
“The arrest we are about to brief you on is one that is horrific to the safety of the youth in our community,” said Chief Ed Roessler at a press conference Friday afternoon.
A daycare worker with the Department of Family Services School Age Child Care program based at West Springfield Elementary School was arrested Thursday night. Rolly Hammond, 38, is charged with aggravated sexual battery, forcible sodomy and indecent liberties by a custodian.
Police started investigating him after a child reported being inappropriately touched by the Hammond. The investigation revealed Hammond also sexually abused another child for years according to Roessler.
“My prayers will continue to be given to the victims and their families as a predator has traumatically harmed their lives,” Roessler said.
At this point, Roessler said they’re not sure where the abuse took place.
Police fear these two children may not be Hammond’s only victims and are asking people who are concerned their children may have had inappropriate contact with him or know about these two cases to contact them.
Police said Hammond started working at the county in 2008 and worked at Ravensworth Elementary School, West Springfield and Rolling Valley Elementary School over the years. He no longer works for the school system.
