WASHINGTON (WMAL) – The National Park Service announced it will be doing interim repairs on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway this weekend in anticipation for a larger repaving project in mid-April.

The announcement was made in a statement released by the National Park Service on Wednesday. This news comes after several politicians in the DMV area, including Senator Chris Van Hollen and Congressmen Anthony Brown, spoke out about a need for repairs on the BW Parkway.

In order to do these interim repairs, the NPS said it will close parts of the BW Parkway for two evenings on Friday, March 29 and Saturday, March 30. According to the NPS, the southbound parkway from MD 198 to MD 197 will be closed from 7:30 p.m. on Friday to 5 a.m. on Saturday.

There will also be a second closure that weekend on the northbound parkway from MD 197 to MD 198. That closure will be from 7:30 p.m. on Saturday until 5 a.m. on Sunday.

According to the NPS, these repairs will involve the use of different patching material with the goal of improving driving conditions until the repaving projects begin within the next few weeks.

“We take our responsibility for the parkway very seriously and are making good on our promise to drivers to do everything in our power to improve the road,” Baltimore-Washington Parkway Superintendent Matt Carroll said in a statement released by the NPS. “National Park Service crews have been working tirelessly. The special patching this weekend should improve driving right away and will be quickly followed by repaving.”
