Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring says he wants to repair harm from blackface (FOX 5 DC)

Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring on Monday defended his handling of a blackface scandal, and he did not rule out a future run for governor at the same time he promised to repair the harm he’s caused.

Speaking on The Kojo Nnamdi Show on WAMU in Washington, the 57-year-old Herring apologized repeatedly for dressing up like a rapper with a wig and brown makeup while attending a party in 1980. The interview marked his first in nearly a month since he admitted to wearing blackface while a student at the University of Virginia — an admission that came just days after he’d condemned Gov. Ralph Northam for similar behavior. [Read More]

It’s on: Republicans already maneuvering to succeed Trump in 2024 (Washington Examiner)

Top Republicans loyal to President Trump are already jockeying to succeed him in 2024 – or even in 2020, an unusual dynamic spawned by the uncertainty of a White House invariably embroiled in controversy.

The moves are subtle and can be plausibly explained as something other than preparation for a presidential run. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is in early primary campaign battleground Iowa to reassure voters about Trump’s trade policy. Nikki Haley, former ambassador to the United Nations, has formed a conservative nonprofit to influence policymakers. Vice President Mike Pence’s well-developed political operation was built to service his boss. [Read More]

‘I’m not running’: Hillary Clinton again tamps down speculation of rematch with Trump (USA Today)

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton definitively declared on Monday “I’m not running” in the 2020 presidential election, again throwing cold water on the still smoldering rumors that she might go for a 2016 rematch against President Donald Trump.

“I’m not running, but I’m going to keep working and speaking and standing up for what I believe,” she said in an interview with News 12, a regional cable news network in New York. “I’m not going anywhere.” [Read More]

Explosive New Documents Reveal Andrew Weissmann’s Misconduct In Enron Case (The Federalist)

Nearly four months ago, Houston-based attorney Kevin Fulton filed, on my behalf, a motion to unseal records in a case headed by Andrew Weissmann, who is now a member of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s team. Late Thursday, a federal district court judge in Texas granted (with one exception), the motion to unseal, making some of those documents publicly available for the first time.

The sealed records involved the Enron case Weissmann oversaw prior to his abrupt departure from the Enron Task Force in the middle of jury deliberations. Given Weissmann’s current role as Mueller’s “pit bull,” revisiting the allegations of misconduct leveled against the prosecutor—with the benefit of the entire unsealed record—promotes transparency and the public’s interest in trusting the integrity of the special counsel’s team. Parents, students protest after high school bans MAGA hats, banners on ‘USA Day’ (The Washington Times)

A group of parents are protesting after they say a suburban Phoenix school unfairly disciplined students for their political views.

Around 40 people, including a few students, gathered Monday morning across the street from Perry High School in Gilbert with signs and flags saying “Make America Great Again” and other messages supportive of President Donald Trump. [Read More]
