The dud that will blow up Washington (Washington Examiner)

Special counsel Robert Mueller’s final report is said to be close to completion and ready for submission to the Justice Department. There is even conjecture that it is already finished, but Mueller decided, or was perhaps persuaded by newly confirmed Attorney General William Barr, to delay submission until President Trump returns from the Southeast Asia talks with North Korean strongman Kim Jong Un.

In a perfect world, the final report would be a nonevent. Alas, that is not our world, so Mueller’s conclusion will be only the beginning of a free-for-all, featuring Washington hypocrisy at its worst. [Read More]

The Steele Dossier’s ‘Corroborated’ Claims Were Old News (National Review)

Ross Douthat had an excellent column in Times on Sunday about the state of the Trump-Russia investigation. He homed in on the Steele dossier and its four major claims (or, as he put it, the four “big possibilities” it raised). The first of these “was that Russian intelligence was behind the hacks of the Democratic National Committee and the release of stolen emails through WikiLeaks.” Ross adds that this big possibility was “soon well corroborated.” [Read More]

Michelle Malkin denounces ‘the ghost of John McCain’ at CPAC (Washington Examiner)

Michelle Malkin, a conservative blogger and commentator, blasted deceased Sen. John McCain in an anti-immigration speech she gave Friday at the Conservative Political Action Conference.

“And yes, I’m looking at you, the ghost of John McCain,” Malkin said to a standing ovation after blaming GOP party leadership, including former Speaker of the House Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, for not dealing with what she described as an immigration crisis. [Read More]

Hillary Clinton blames gutting of Voting Rights Act for her 2016 loss (AOL)

Speaking Sunday at the historic Brown Chapel A.M.E. Church, former Secretary of State, First Lady, and 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton suggested a key Supreme Court decision may have cost her the White House.

Clinton was participating in an annual commemoration of the 1965 Selma to Montgomery marches that included the infamous “Bloody Sunday” where Civil Rights activists were viciously beaten by white police and protesters. The church where she spoke was the starting point for the marches, which were organized by a group that was pushing for voting rights and included Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Rep. John Lewis (D-Ala.). Clinton connected the push for voting rights to her 2016 presidential campaign. [Read More]

Already the highest among the Washington suburbs, Arlington Public Schools’ per-student cost would rise 3.4 percent to a record $20,012 under the fiscal 2020 budget proposal unveiled by Superintendent Patrick Murphy on Feb. 28.

The $671.6 million budget plan – also a record – would be up 4.9 percent from a year before, in large part because of the effects of ongoing student growth that has seen the system grow from 19,500 students in 2009 to a projected 28,500 next year – up 46 percent. [Read More]
