Republican state Sen. Richard Black, facing tough re-election fight in Northern Virginia, to retire

State Sen. Richard Black, R-Loudoun, who faced a tough re-election race this year, has opted to retire, he announced Wednesday on Twitter.

“What started out as a fight to filter porn on library computers turned into serving for 20 years in Richmond. I’m proud of what we accomplished over the years. Thanks to everyone who fought along side me in these many battles!” Black, 74, wrote on Twitter.

Democrats dig in against border wall money after White House briefing on government shutdown (CNBC)

Congress and the White House appeared no closer to breaking a government funding stalemate Wednesday as top lawmakers dug in after a White House briefing on President Donald Trump‘s proposed border wall.

On the 12th day of a partial government shutdown, congressional leaders came no closer to reaching a deal on border security money.
