WASHINGTON (WMAL) – Prince George’s County Police are getting some help solving a cold case from an unlikely source: a convicted serial killer suspected of murdering 90 women around the country.
This week Samuel Little – who is serving multiple life sentences for murders in California and Texas – submitted a sketch of a 19-year-old woman he confessed to killing in Prince George’s County in 1972. A hunter found her remains in a wooded area in Laurel off Route197 and the Baltimore-Washington Parkway that year.
“Hopefully this is something that will serve as a great step towards identifying her and finally answering some questions to the victim’s family,” said Detective Bernie Nelson.
Other sketches Little has drawn of his victims were accurate according to Nelson, and Little claims this one is too.
Police hope someone will see the sketch and recognize the woman. They have her DNA, so if someone submits a name, they can ask relatives of that person for samples to see if there’s a match.
There are few clues to the victim’s identity at this point. After the remains were found, the medical examiner said she was a white woman, approximately 5’2” to 5’6” with dirty blonde or reddish hair.
Little told police he met the woman – who he said was a prostitute – at a bus station on New York Avenue in the District. After propositioning her for three days, he convinced her to get in a car and travel the country with him.
“However on this particular day, they had an interaction, a sexual interaction, and the monster came out of him, and he decided to strangle her to death, unfortunately” Nelson said.
Little claimed the woman told him she was recently divorced and from Massachusetts. Police from that state are working with Prince George’s County Police and the FBI to solve this cold case.
