WASHINGTON (WMAL) – Metro will be closing two stations along the Blue and Yellow lines, National Airport and Crystal City, from Friday, November 9 through Monday, November 12.
The work, which was originally scheduled from November 2 to November 5, is part of a capital improvement project.
Metro released a complete breakdown of what riders need to know for the weekend:
Service Information
Friday, Nov. 9 through Monday, Nov. 12:
No Yellow or Blue line trains between Braddock Road and Pentagon City stations.
Reagan National Airport and Crystal City stations will be closed.
On Friday & Monday:
- Blue Line trains will operate in two segments: between Franconia-Springfield & Braddock Road every 12 minutes during daytime hours and between Pentagon City & Largo Town Center every 12-16 minutes.
- Yellow Line trains will operate in two segments: between Huntington & Braddock Road every 12 minutes during daytime hours and between Pentagon City & Mt Vernon Square every 12-16 minutes.
- Buses will replace trains between Braddock Rd, National Airport, Crystal City and Pentagon City. Additional Express shuttle buses will operate between Braddock Road and Pentagon City from 5 a.m. – 8 p.m. and between Franconia-Springfield and Pentagon from 5 a.m. – 8 p.m.
- Blue/Yellow customers may experience crowding due to less frequent service. Please allow additional travel time.
Rush Hour Promise will not be in effect for trips on the Yellow and Blue lines on Friday, November 9, but will remain in effect for customers on other lines.
On Saturday & Sunday:
- Blue Line trains will operate in two segments: between Franconia-Springfield & Braddock Road every 12-15 minutes during daytime hours and between Pentagon City & Eastern Market every 24 minutes all day.
- Yellow Line trains will operate in two segments: between Huntington & Braddock Road every 12-15 minutes during daytime hours and between Pentagon City & Mt Vernon Square every 24 minutes all day.
- Buses will replace trains between Braddock Rd, National Airport, Crystal City and Pentagon City. Additional express shuttle buses will operate between Braddock Rd and Pentagon City from 7 a.m. – 8 p.m. on Saturday and from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. on Sunday.
Travel Alternatives
- Free shuttle bus service will operate between Braddock Rd, Reagan National Airport, Crystal City and Pentagon City.
- Express shuttle bus service will operate between Braddock Rd and Pentagon City from system opening until 8 p.m.
- Express shuttle bus service will operate between Franconia-Springfield and Pentagon from system opening until 8 p.m. Friday and Monday only.
- Consider Metrobus or other local bus providers. See bus alternatives below.
- Some customers traveling between Virginia and Downtown DC on Friday, November 9, may wish to consider VRE train service between Franconia-Springfield, Crystal City or King Street to L’Enfant Plaza or Union Station.

Virginia Railway Express (VRE)
Fredericksburg Line – Commuter rail service between Spotsylvania and Union Station, connecting Franconia-Springfield, Crystal City, King St. (Alexandria) to L’Enfant Plaza and Union Station in Downtown DC.
Manassas Line – Commuter rail service between Broad Run/Manassas and Union Station, connecting King St (Alexandria) and Crystal City to L’Enfant Plaza and Union Station in Downtown DC.
*Please note VRE service does not operate on weekends or federal holidays.
Parking
Customers who park and ride from Franconia-Springfield, Van Dorn St or Huntington stations may consider using other county or Metrorail Park & Ride Facilities.
Customers who park and ride from Franconia-Springfield may consider utilizing the free express shuttle bus to Pentagon to connect to Yellow and Blue line service to Downtown DC.
