WASHINGTON (WMAL) – A Prince George’s County Police officer was indicted on rape charges Thursday for allegedly forcing a woman to perform a sex act on him during a traffic stop.
At around 1 a.m. on Oct. 11, police said officer Ryan Macklin pulled a woman over in Langley Park, asked for her license, groped her and then told her to drive behind a shopping center.
While the woman was driving to the shopping center, Prince George’s County State’s Attonrney’s Office spokesperson Gina Ford said she called a friend and told the person where she was going.
Once there, police said Macklin got into the woman’s car and forced her to perform a sex act. Ford said he then told her he wanted to have sex with her. According to Ford, at about that time, the person the woman called arrived, and Macklin left.
State’s Attorney Angela Alsobrooks said in a statement the fact that a uniformed officer who took an oath to protect and serve his community used his powers to attack a defenseless woman is not only illegal, but violates the trust of the community and police officers working to keep people safe.
The investigation into the incident continues according to Ford.
“We will make sure that it’s thoroughly investigated, and we certainly intend to seek justice for this victim,” Ford said.
The first degree rape charge carries a possible life sentence. Macklin was also charged with second degree, misconduct in office, and engaging in sexual contact with a person in his custody. Ford said the last charge is the result of a law that went into effect in October and carries a sentence of up to three years.
Ford’s being held without bond.
