Rod Rosenstein’s Resistance (National Review)

Rod Rosenstein is even a weasel when repudiating his weasel moves. Here (with my italics) is the deputy attorney general’s non-denial denial of a New York Times report Friday that he brainstormed about ousting President Trump in May 2017:

The New York Times’s story is inaccurate and factually incorrect. . . . I will not further comment on a story based on anonymous sources who are obviously biased against the department and are advancing their own personal agenda. White House pushes back on second Kavanaugh accuser (The Hill)

The White House is pushing back against allegations from a second woman accusing Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct, a shift from their handling of earlier accusations against Kavanaugh in which they focused more on defending their nominee.

Raj Shah, a White House spokesman, pointed to what he characterized as significant problems in the woman’s story, while the Republican National Committee (RNC), which works closely with President Trump, issued a memo highlighting “major holes” in her story.

Trump himself spoke out in defense of Kavanaugh ahead of meetings at the United Nations. [Read More]

Wendy Martinez: Police Believe Stabbing May Have Been Racially Motivated (Yahoo)

Police believe the brutal stabbing of a Washington D.C. jogger may have been racially motivated.

Anthony Crawford, 23, was arrested Thursday in connection with the murder of 35-year-old Wendy Martinez. He’s been charged with first-degree murder.

Investigators mentioned that Martinez’s murder might have been “racially motivated” because Crawford “does not like white people,” according to WUSA9.

Police said the attack was “unprovoked,” and did not appear to be a robbery. Crawford did not cooperate with police, authorities said. [Read More]

Larry Hogan, Ben Jealous meet in only debate of Maryland governor’s race (WJLA)

Republican Gov. Larry Hogan and Democrat Ben Jealous are meeting in the only debate of the Maryland governor’s race.

It is being held Monday at the studios of Maryland Public Television in Owings Mills, Maryland. The candidates will take questions from several panelists, including journalists from The Washington Post, The Baltimore Sun, The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown and WMDT-TV.
